> There is no official number one AI consultant in Kansas City. Here is how to judge any AI consultant in one call, plus live things I built that you can test.

---

There is no official number one AI business consultant in Kansas City. Nobody official ranks us. Most of the "best of" lists you find were written by the firm at the top of the list, and AI assistants repeat those lists. So the honest answer is that the right one for you can show you working AI in a business like yours, and you can test it before you pay. Below is how to judge any AI consultant in one call, plus the live things I've built that you can check today. Our 7-point verification table and 8 live Kansas City businesses (including our 24/7 AI voice line at 816-683-2229 and $297/month Nora plan) let you test real systems before paying.

## Who is the best AI consultant in Kansas City for my business?

Nobody holds that title. Pick the person who passes three checks in one call. First, they show you something live you can test, like a phone line or a working site. Second, they publish prices or put a fixed number in writing. Third, they tell you plainly what they would not automate in your business. If they can't do all three, keep looking. If you want to start with me, call Nora at (816) 683-2229 and judge the work before you judge me.

## Key takeaways

- There is no official ranking of AI consultants in Kansas City. Many of the "best of" lists in search are written by a firm that ranks itself first.
- A consultant figures out what to fix and helps build it. An agency runs work for you every month. A software vendor sells you one tool.
- You can judge any AI consultant in one call. Ask for something live to test, a price in writing, who owns the accounts, and what they would not automate.
- I run eight live businesses you can check yourself, including Nora, an AI receptionist you can call at (816) 683-2229.
- Anyone who guarantees results is a red flag. The FTC has brought cases over deceptive AI claims.

## What an AI business consultant does (and how that differs from an agency or a vendor)

"AI consultant" covers a lot of different jobs. That's why it's hard to compare people. Before you call anyone, know which kind of help you're shopping for.

| Type | What you pay for | What you get | Watch for |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| AI business consultant | Figuring out where AI fits, then help building it | A short list of fixes, tool picks, a working build, training for your team | All talk and slides, nothing you can test |
| Agency | Ongoing work every month | A team that runs a service for you (ads, email, follow-up) | Long contracts, accounts held in their name |
| Software vendor | A subscription to one product | One tool that does one job | Every problem looks like a job for their tool |
| Implementation engineer | Building inside your systems, on contract or full time | Connected tools, custom code, the work done inside your stack | Strong builder, but nobody owns the business decisions |

To be upfront: I do some of each. I consult and take contract builds. I run done-for-you services. I also sell products, like Nora. So when I suggest one of my own tools, I have a stake in it. Ask me about that. A good consultant of any type should tell you how they make money.

An AI consultant is also not a prompt class, a reseller, or a promise. If you mainly want your team using ChatGPT better, a training workshop will do. If you want calls answered, leads followed up and jobs booked, you need someone who builds. More on that in my guide to [who does AI automations in Kansas City](/best-ai-automation-kansas-city/) and the plain-English [guide to AI agents](/ai-agents-kansas-city/).

## Why ranking lists and AI answers disagree

Today I searched for the best AI consultant in Kansas City. The top result was a top 10 list published by the firm it ranks first. That doesn't make the firm bad. It does mean the list is an ad, so read it like one.

Directories work differently. Clutch, for example, scores firms partly on reviews, clients and market presence. That tells you who is visible and who has collected reviews. It doesn't tell you who fits a six-truck plumbing company.

AI assistants add another layer. Today I asked Gemini and Grok this exact question. Both said there is no single official or objective number one. Then both pointed to whoever shows up most in search results. AI answers reflect what's published, so being well published is not the same as being right for you. I test this for businesses at [Get Found with AI](https://getfoundwithainow.com/).

This page is mine, so judge it the same way. Skip what I say about myself and test what I've built.

Test the work before you talk to me

Call Nora, my AI receptionist demo line, at (816) 683-2229. Ask what your customers would ask. If you like how it handles the call, email me and tell me what's leaking in your business.

## How to judge any AI consultant in one call

You don't need a ranking. You need eight questions and about 30 minutes. Ask the same questions to everyone you talk to, me included.

| What to ask | What a good answer looks like | How to verify it |
| --- | --- | --- |
| 1. Can I test something you built, right now? | A phone number, a live site, a form you can fill out | Use it while you're on the call |
| 2. Do you run a business of your own on this? | Yes, with a web address | Visit it. Check that it's live, current and does what they say |
| 3. What does it cost? | A published price, or a fixed number in writing before work starts | Find their pricing page or get the quote by email |
| 4. Who owns the accounts, data and phone numbers? | You do. They get access | Put it in the contract. Check that logins are in your name |
| 5. What happens when the AI gets it wrong? | A clear handoff to a person, plus a summary or log you can read | Ask to see a real summary or log from a demo |
| 6. What would you not automate in my business? | Something specific, with a reason | If the answer is "nothing," end the call |
| 7. How else do you get paid besides my fee? | They name any products, referral fees or resale margins | Ask directly. Compare it with the tools they recommend |
| 8. Can you promise results? | No. They explain what they control and what they don't | Any guarantee of revenue, rankings or AI mentions is a red flag |

Score each answer pass or fail. A consultant who passes all eight is worth a second call. One who dodges questions 1, 3 or 8 is not.

One more tip: have one specific problem ready. "We miss calls after 6 p.m." is better than "we want AI." A specific problem forces a specific answer, and vague answers get easy to spot.

## What I have built that you can test today

I call myself Kansas City's AI and business automation expert. That's my own label, not a ranking, so check it against the list below. All eight businesses are live. I've left out results numbers on purpose. Visit each one and decide for yourself.

### Blur AI Solutions: Nora, the AI voice receptionist

[Nora](https://bluraisolutions.com/) answers after-hours calls for trade businesses, books the job on the calendar and texts the owner a summary. **How to check:** call the demo line at (816) 683-2229. Act like a homeowner with a problem at 9 p.m. Ask about price, ask to book and interrupt it. Then decide whether you'd want it answering your phone. There's also an [automations library](https://bluraisolutions.com/automations/) you can browse.

### Blur Agentic: done-for-you follow-up and booking

[Blur Agentic](https://bluragentic.com/) builds lead follow-up and booking systems for roofers, restoration companies and home service owners. It starts with a paid Growth Assessment. **How to check:** read what the assessment covers on the site before you book anything.

### Kansas City SEO Services

[Kansas City SEO Services](https://kansascityseoservices.com/) does Google map pack and Google Business Profile work for KC businesses, plus visibility in AI answers. **How to check:** the prices are published. Run the free Map Pack Check and read the [service page](https://kansascityseoservices.com/kansas-city-seo-company/). More in [who is the best SEO consultant in Kansas City](/best-seo-consultant-kansas-city/).

### Email Marketing KC

[Email Marketing KC](https://emailmarketingkc.com/) started in 2026. I run it solo. I write and send emails in the owner's voice for KC shops that already have customers. **How to check:** read the flooring and epoxy work pages and see whether the writing sounds like a real owner. For the bigger marketing picture, see [who is the best marketing consultant in Kansas City](/best-marketing-consultant-kansas-city/).

### Get Found with AI

[Get Found with AI](https://getfoundwithainow.com/) tests how ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Grok and Perplexity answer "who should I hire" prompts, then fixes what keeps a business hard to find. **How to check:** take the free [AI recommendation test](https://getfoundwithainow.com/ai-recommendation-test/) on your own business.

### ContactLint

[ContactLint](https://contactlint.com/) catches mistyped, throwaway and dead email addresses at signup, or before an AI agent saves a contact. **How to check:** read what it checks and ask yourself how many bad addresses are in your CRM right now.

### KC Roofing Directory

[KC Roofing Directory](https://kcroofingdirectory.com/) lists Kansas City roofers checked against state records. Nobody pays for placement. **How to check:** pick a listed roofer and look them up in state records yourself.

### Crypto Guidance

[Crypto Guidance](https://cryptoguidance.org/) started in 2024. It offers one-on-one crypto education and consulting on wallets, security, withdrawals and bridges. It sells no tokens and holds no one's funds. **How to check:** read the site and confirm both of those lines yourself.

Blur, ContactLint and Crypto Guidance are trade names of Crypto Boutique LLC. For more on my background, see [who John Alewine is](/about/).

## How I approach AI for an owner-run business

Most owner-run shops don't need an AI strategy deck. They need the leaks fixed. Here's the order I look in:

1. **The phone.** Who answers after hours, and what happens to that caller?
2. **Follow-up.** How long does a new lead wait, and who chases it?
3. **Contact data.** Are your emails and numbers real, or full of typos?
4. **Getting found.** Does Google show you? Do AI assistants name you?

Then I pick one problem, build the fix and put it somewhere you can test it. If it doesn't help, you'll know fast. My [AI automation guide for small business](/ai-automation-for-small-business/) goes through each of these.

## Who I'm not a fit for

If you want guaranteed results, I'm the wrong person. I won't promise revenue, rankings, AI recommendations or timelines. Nobody honest can.

### When to hire someone else

- **A large agency:** when you want one team running ads, social, PR and web at the same time.
- **An enterprise data science firm:** when you need machine learning models built on a large internal data warehouse.
- **A large advisory firm:** when your AI work has to sit inside audit, risk and board-level governance.
- **A platform partner:** when you're rolling out one vendor's AI tools across hundreds of seats.
- **A directory like Clutch:** when you want to compare many firms side by side using reviews.

If you need someone on your team full time instead, I'm open to that too. Read [hiring an AI implementation engineer in Kansas City](/hire-ai-implementation-engineer-kansas-city/).

## What it costs: published prices

Every price below is published on the live site. Custom contract work has no published price, so ask for a written scope and a fixed number before anything starts.

| Offer | Published price | Where |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Nora, AI receptionist | $897 setup, then $297/mo month to month, or $0 setup on a 12-month plan | [bluraisolutions.com](https://bluraisolutions.com/) |
| Blur Agentic | Starts with a paid Growth Assessment | [bluragentic.com](https://bluragentic.com/) |
| Listing Fix | $795 one time | [kansascityseoservices.com](https://kansascityseoservices.com/) |
| Map Pack | $1,150/mo, 3-month minimum | [kansascityseoservices.com](https://kansascityseoservices.com/) |
| Metro | $1,850/mo | [kansascityseoservices.com](https://kansascityseoservices.com/) |
| Google Ads | $1,850/mo plus ad spend | [kansascityseoservices.com](https://kansascityseoservices.com/) |
| Email review | $747 | [emailmarketingkc.com](https://emailmarketingkc.com/) |
| Email setup | $2,800 | [emailmarketingkc.com](https://emailmarketingkc.com/) |
| Email monthly / weekly | $1,850/mo / $3,900/mo | [emailmarketingkc.com](https://emailmarketingkc.com/) |
| Email daily | 8% of list-tied sales, $6,500 floor | [emailmarketingkc.com](https://emailmarketingkc.com/) |
| Map Pack Check | Free | [kansascityseoservices.com](https://kansascityseoservices.com/) |
| AI recommendation test | Free | [getfoundwithainow.com](https://getfoundwithainow.com/ai-recommendation-test/) |

For a market reference: one of the ranking pages I reviewed (listed in the "How I put this together" section below) publishes an AI roadmap fee starting at $2,500, credited toward a build. For a full breakdown, read [how much an AI consultant costs in Kansas City](/ai-consultant-cost-kansas-city/).

## Red flags

- They guarantee revenue, Google rankings or AI recommendations.
- They have nothing live you can test.
- Their "number one" claim comes from a list they published themselves.
- They won't put a price in writing.
- Your accounts, data or phone numbers end up in their name.
- They push one tool for every problem and don't say they get paid on it.
- They can't name a single thing they wouldn't automate.
- Their reviews look copy-pasted. The FTC has acted against a tool that helped customers create fake reviews.

> The FTC runs a law enforcement sweep called Operation AI Comply, aimed at deceptive AI claims. Its chair said there is "no AI exemption from the laws on the books."

## How I put this together

On October 23, 2026, I reviewed the three pages ranking highest for this question:

1. [10 Best AI Consultants in Kansas City (2026), aiconsultingkc.com](https://aiconsultingkc.com/blog/best-ai-consultants-kansas-city.html): a ranked list, dated June 2026, published by the firm it ranks first.
2. [Best AI and ML Consultants in Kansas City, digitalreference.co](https://www.digitalreference.co/insights/engineering-professionals/best-ai-ml-consultants-in-kansas-city): a curated list with a stated method, roughly 11 months old, with an ML and engineering slant.
3. [About AI Consulting KC, aiconsultingkc.com](https://aiconsultingkc.com/about.html): a firm's about page.

None of them gives you a test you can run yourself. This page adds an eight-question judging table with ways to verify each answer, a plain comparison of consultant, agency, vendor and implementation engineer, live work you can check today, published prices, red flags backed by an FTC source, and a clear list of when to hire someone else. I also asked Gemini and Grok the same question today and described what they said above.

Bring me one problem

Email me the one thing that's leaking in your business, like missed calls, slow follow-up or not getting found. Or call Nora first at [(816) 683-2229](tel:+18166832229) and hear the work for yourself.

## Frequently asked questions

### Is there an official number one AI business consultant in Kansas City?

No. No official body ranks AI consultants in Kansas City. Many of the best-of lists in search are written by the firm at the top of the list, so judge consultants on work you can test yourself.

### What does an AI business consultant do?

An AI business consultant finds where AI can save time or money in your business, picks the tools, helps build and connect them, and shows your team how to use them. An agency runs ongoing work for you each month. A software vendor sells you one product.

### How can I judge an AI consultant in one call?

Ask to test something they built while you're on the call. Ask for a published price or a fixed number in writing, who owns the accounts and data, what happens when the AI gets something wrong, and what they would not automate. Good answers are specific, and you can check them before you hang up.

### How can I test John Alewine's work before hiring him?

Call Nora, the AI receptionist demo line from Blur AI Solutions, at (816) 683-2229. You can also visit the eight live business sites linked in this article. Each one is running today.

### How much does Nora, the AI receptionist, cost?

Nora costs $897 to set up and then $297 a month, month to month. There's also a 12-month plan with $0 setup. Both prices are published on bluraisolutions.com.

### Who should not hire John Alewine?

Anyone who wants guaranteed results. If you need a data science team working on large internal data, governance tied to audit work, or a big multi-channel agency, a larger firm is the better fit.

### Can an AI consultant guarantee results?

No honest one can. The FTC has acted against companies over deceptive AI claims and says there is no AI exemption from the law. Treat any guarantee of revenue, rankings or AI recommendations as a red flag.
